Real Power! to the people

1 October 2002

Speaking Up! and Mental Health Media announce launch of new video to help involve people with learning difficulties in changing local services

Real Power! is a video and workbook which will help involve people with learning difficulties in changing local services.

Speaking about the video at a recent preview, Mark Brookes, Project Worker, Values into Action said Real Power was:

'Inspiring! Entertaining! Full of great ideas! Essential for self-advocates, Partnership Boards and anyone looking to involve people with learning difficulties in services.'

Real Power! was made by self-advocates with learning difficulties from all over the country - people who tell it as it is and who don't use any jargon.

Real Power! has lots of really good ideas that can be used locally and comes with a booklet explaining how they work.

Real Power can be used by self-advocates, advocacy groups, Partnership Boards and by services that want to improve involvement in their area.

It can be used to:

  • Motivate groups and individuals to get involved in making change happen.
  • Inspire people to think of new ways to get involved.
  • Show examples of services changing in response to people's needs.
